I'm a big believer in the power of words. I think the way you vocalize your life has a huge impact on how you experience it. I like positive affirmations, and overused quotes, and having personal mantras. I also like gold jewelry that makes a lot of noise. I've had a couple of Mantra bands throughout the last couple of years, but this is my favorite stack. They're reminders, accessories, and make a very satisfying clank every time I wave my arms.

+ You're My Person.
I have a lot of very important people in my life, and this reminds me that as much as they're my person, I'm theirs too. I don't have a big crew, but we roll deep, and I will never stop appreciating them.

+  It Is What It Is
My dad says this all the time, and as frustrating as it is sometimes, he's right. I'm a type A straight laced perfectionist, and I always want everything to work exactly as I planned. I am also stressed 99% of the time.

+ You Got This
This is the big one: we've got this. Everything will get done, everyone will be where they're supposed to be, and this is gonna be fine. 

Do you have a personal mantra or saying? Do you just hum "Hakuna Matata" to yourself every morning? Tell me about it. Better yet, wear it.

But do not tell your mother I condoned tattoos.

Look who made it across the planet in one piece. Ish. One suitcase, one carry on, one backpack, two MOPHIE recharges, a ten hour flight and nine hour time difference later, I am in the land of the pretzels. Because I do not believe in reasonable things like "resting up" and "adapting naturally",  I decided that I would not allow jet lag to touch me, and promptly began adventuring.

Here are some things I have learned in my first few days in Germany:

1. Everyone parks wherever they want, including on the actual sidewalk.

2. There is no such thing as an orderly city layout and you will get lost.

3. PEOPLE WILL BE HAPPY TO LET YOU CUDDLE THEIR DOGS IF YOU ASK

4. Aldi is what happens when target and Trader Joes have a baby and I've gone every single day

5. There are forests everywhere. Even in the middle of the city. #StadtWald

6. There are opportunities to eat everywhere, and you should accept them all.

7. You put change in shopping carts to make them go and it's genius.

8. Germans are obsessed with stairs, so no, there isn't an elevator.

9. It is not all dirndls and lederhosen - everyone dresses like they're in LA and I love it.

10. The only logical reason for Ueberraschungsei being banned in the US is that they're just too good and the government doesn't think the public can handle it.

The next three months are going to be crazy and great and I'm so excited that it's finally happening and YOU KNOW NOW. Seriously, not telling you guys was so stressful, a whole streak of my hair went *lowers voice*...straight.

I know my skin is under all the dirt and bugspray but by now it's pointless trying to get it off.


THE CAT IS BACK. I have returned from camp, and it was fantastic. Every summer it gets better and better. I mean, I could have done without the spot of extreme heat exhaustion, dehydration, and fever I went through, but you know. *Kanye shrug*. The things 11 year old girls will gossip about are unbelievable. They're all Kate Sanders - no one will ever get away with being an outfit repeater. Beyond that though, it's nice to just take a week out and not talk to anyone but the people across from you at the breakfast table. What is not nice is hitting signal on your way out and the subsequent phone heart-attack. I had 583 unread emails. No chill out here on the internet. None.

I keep waiting for the feeling of ~summer has started~, and so it was a total jolt for me to realize today is literally halfway through the year. There are only six more months of 2015 left, and I have sO MUCH TO DO. Pray for me.

There was ONE thing that happened last year that you guys probably forgot about: I went dark for one day in July. Like deep, dark, code black dark. All you guys had was a snapchat check in at Burbank airport. FINALLY, I get to tell you: I was having lunch with Gordon Ramsay for a new show on the BBC.

There's really no way to follow that up with a decent closer, so just click this and enjoy.

The overalls are thus preserved forever.

What a wonderful night. 

You recreate Charlies Angels poses with all of your girlfriends.

 (minus one, who is across a rather large pond)

You get to eat hamburgers + french fries,

and make faces out the drive thru window 

at your favorite eating establishment.

You go watch a movie that involves Don Draper, India,

 and a rather unlikely plotline.

You fit six people in a photo booth,

 then decide polaroids are better anyways.

You discover that when it comes to air hockey, 

your tiniest friend is much more ferocious than her size and demeanor had led you to believe.

You defend your title as reigning Dance Dance Revolution queen in very high heels.

..and you do it all in a dress you found stuffed on the back of the rack in your thrift store 

that fit you perfectly from the very beginning.

Prime example of finding inspiration in the absolute strangest of places.

This particular outfit was inspired by my new friend Tyler-From-Iowa.

Yes, that is definitely his name.

 We were having a very serious conversation on casual plaid vs. fancy plaid, 

this is not a joke son

when I realized I didn't ACTUALLY own any plaid shirts.

 Mostly because I always thought I was probably allergic to them.

But, I will always try something once,

 so I packed myself off to my very favorite thrift store, 

and went straight to the source: vintage menswear. 

THIS SHIRT IS FANTASTIC

let us take a moment to bless the tiny man who donated it

It is soft, and warm, and looks like pyjamas but is an actual shirt.

 Full points.

Paired with my gorgeous B.C. Footwear boots and fave burgundy jeans, 

this is about as farmer-ish (Iowa-ish?) as I get.

It is also, incidentially, 

the only time I will get near the chicken coop.

Do: wear vintage plaid.

Do not: approach the birds.
