get stepping

shoes: vans

I cringe at being such a cliche, but I really do love shoes. I spend a lot of time on my feet, running around, and it's important to me that they don't just fall off. Sneakers, heels, boots, clogs. I wear them all, and will always buy another pair. That said, I moved with a swiftness when The Great Mall invited me to come check out their latest mall-wide sale -
because a sale at an outlet mall is 2x better than a sale at a regular mall.

I love to prepare for things as far in advance as possible, but yesterday, I just went with the flow - and tried on every. single. pair. of. shoes. That's not to say that I didn't predict my inevitable purchase of these pastel vans - I've been eyeing them for months - just that I wanted to be sure.

I remember as a kid being so done with shoe shopping that I literally just took them off and threw them as far away from me as I could physically managed. After being forced to walk the two feet to pick them up, I resolved that I would never make anyone go through what was clearly an act of torment.

Sorry Chloie.

x Justina

ps. this post was produced in partnership with simon malls, but remember the rules:
no pair of shoes can buy my love.

where are they taking you

shoes: tevas x jhene aiko

HI GUYS wow it's been ten days. That doesn't seem like a long time, but it was long enough for like a thousand people to die on Game of Thrones. I've been out adventuring with my squad, from San Francisco to LA.  In the first part, we bought succulents, listed to TLOP, and - well that's all for another post. I'll be writing a lot in the coming weeks - but first, much like gym class, we need to talk about footwear.

This post is about what I wore on my feet, because I'm trying to improve lives here. On this particular outing to SF, I broke in my brand new Teva's in a very serious way. I'd had vague blister-related reservations about wearing new shoes on a day where I'd be walking approx. a million miles up hill, but they're also very ~funky~ and if not San Francisco, where else?

THESE SHOES ARE INCREDIBLE. I don't why I've never gotten pair before. I mean, I do, because velcro, but I'm over that now. Not only are they squishy and comfy, but they're v stylish. I, and more importantly, Jhene Aiko say so, and you can't argue with it. I like to move wildly, and climb things and stand on my tiptoes, and these shoes just let it all happen. In the past, I've shied away from the "pretty ugly" shoe trend because A. it seemed like a lot of work to style and B. I didn't see a huge benefit. After clambering all over California in these, I can distinctly say that the benefit far outweighs the amount of "90's dad on vacation" jokes your friends will make.

I will, however, be concerned if you start sporting these with Tommy Bahama and a fanny pack.

x J

step to it

sneakers: toms

So, fun medical fact about Justina: I have plantar faciitis. (Not, in fact, planetary fascist, which is what I thought my chiropractor said the first time) Basically, long words short, it means that my feet hurt rather a lot fairly frequently in most shoes. It's made me very picky, and justified a lot of shoe shopping. Sneakers are the worst, because they're always really grossly stiff or just pointlessly thin. Like think about it, there's a reason your chiropractor isn't pushing Yeezy's. My Converse are ADORABLE but after like two hours I'm out. Basically, I didn't have crazy high expectations for this pair from TOMS, but they were cute and I'm a sucker for a cause.

Here's a thing I swear I didn't get bribed to say: THESE SHOES ARE AN ACTUAL MIRACLE AND I NEED MAYBE SIX MORE PAIRS. Or least these snazzy suede ones. Beyond the fact that they're sporty enough to make me look like I know what I'm doing, (you all know better, don't you) they're just really comfortable. As previously stated a hundred thousand times, that's all I'm ever looking for anyway. If they had workable pockets I could probably just throw out half my wardrobe for them. They're so great, in fact, that I felt the need to give them their own blog post. Sneaks are also part of TOMS amazing one for one program, so another is getting some fresh kicks to live their life in too.

Side note: I definitely didn't think about the whole "sneakers in sand" thing until I tried to very carefully put these back in my rucksack - and dropped them in a drift that they were promptly covered by. So they're a bit gritty now, but that's FINE, it just adds to the experience.

But seriously, if you have a way to get sand out of shoes, slide into the DM's.

2. Pick it, then NEVER let it go.

You know that one piece of clothing you can't live without? No matter how many times your wear it, every time it feels like you just bought it? Everyone has SOMETHING. Mine are my glittery, sparkly converse:
Aren't they cool? :) So what's yours??? Think about it like this: If you had to go to a high fashion show wearing only ONE item of clothing (Yes, this includes shoes) what would it be?

Until Whenever,
Justina
